A City Boy and a HiLux – A Conversation With Darcy Moore
If there’s one thing we love more than cars here at Croydon Toyota, it’s footy! With Toyota being the premier partner of the AFL, it was only natural that we decided to catch up with Collingwood star Darcy Moore.
Darcy isn’t your typical footballer. Valuing his time away from the game is what he cherishes most and sees it as the foundation that allows him to perform week after week in Collingwood’s back 6. An avid traveller and reader – Harry Potter being up there as a favourite – Darcy is also pursuing his Masters in International Relations, after recently graduating from his Bachelor of Commerce.
Despite recent setbacks experienced by not only his team but also with his most recent knee injury, Darcy has been in good spirits and has been itching to talk about his latest toy – his brand new HiLux.
He was very firm in saying that he is a proud city boy and a HiLux isn’t something he thought he’d see himself in, but his experience with the impressive ute has been second to none. And, funnily enough, perfect for inner city driving – something Darcy finds himself doing every day.
During our chat with Darcy, we fired off some questions about his new purchase and life on and off the footy field.
Favourite footy moment playing?
2019 Qualifying Final against Geelong. We came out and just dominated the game and then held them off until the end. It was my first ever final and there were about 91,000 at the ‘G. Loved it. It’s what you play for.
Toughest team to play against?
Definitely West Coast. No matter what sort of form they’re in, they just gel well together and match up against us so well every game.
What’s been your favourite Toyota and why?
I borrowed my dad’s 2004 LandCruiser Kakadu growing up – A LOT. It was my first car and I just loved it. There was no special one thing about it, it was just great memories associated with it too.
What would be the first adventure you’ll take your HiLux on?
Definitely straight up to the snow! Either Mt Buller or Mt Hotham! Ben Reid, a good friend of mine, is based at the bottom of Mt Hotham so I’ll be going straight there I think!
Who has been most impressed with the new rig?
I drove Brodie Grundy to the airport a few weeks ago and he loved it. He said it felt great and the ride was really smooth the entire way.
What’s something that really surprised you with the HiLux?
In all honesty, I’m not used to bigger cars because I’m a bit of a city boy so the handling really surprised me! It handles so well, it’s really smooth and it’s not just a large and clunky commercial vehicle – surprisingly okay for city driving!
Favourite feature of the HiLux?
Definitely the sound system. I love music so I’m always turning the speakers up too loud.
On-road or off-road driving?
Probably on-road.
Manual or auto?
Definitely automatic.
Drop punt or the torp?
Drop punt for sure!
Go for the mark or try and spoil?
Alllllways go for the mark!
